Subwoofer Wiring: Are You Still Confused?

Sub Woofer Tip! Cone Material: When it comes to subwoofers, this is actually a pretty important thing to pay attention to. Because subwoofers are big and powerful, you need a cone material that can withstand lots and lots of abuse.

Many people are still confused over the possibilities of the wiring of their subwoofers. These days this is not actually a problem, for there are many websites online giving out the guidelines and diagrams on how to wire your subwoofer the proper way to produce the best quality of sound system, regardless of where you are placing it.

Experts say that the possibilities of wiring actually depend on the number of subwoofers involved. The subwoofer wiring is in fact very important to determine the experience of having the cinema at your own comfort at home. Basically you can have up to three sets of subwoofers in you sound system. And in each case, there can be several subwoofer wiring options available for you.

The Different Possibilities

For a single subwoofer, you can have a subwoofer wiring either of 2-ohm DVC 1-ohm load or 4-ohm load, 4-ohm DVC 2-ohm load or 8-ohm load, 4-ohm SVC 4-ohm load, 8-ohm SVC 8-ohm load. For two set of subwoofers, the subwoofer wiring can range from 2-ohm DVC .5-ohm load, 2-ohm load, or 8-ohm load, 4-ohm DVC 1-ohm load or 4-ohm load, 4-ohm SVC 2-ohm load or 8 ohm load, and 8-ohm SVC 4-ohm load. If you want to have more subwoofers in your sound system, there is no worry about that. You can always seek for professional advice or hunt for guidelines online. Some of the online websites also offer a 3 subwoofer wiring diagram system. Basically you can choose a wiring of between 2-ohm DVC 1.34-ohm load or 3-ohm load, 4-ohm DVC 2.67-ohm load, 4-ohm SVC 1.34-ohm load, and 8-ohm SVC 2.67-ohm load.

Sub Woofer Tip! Should you want to build the 'optimal' box for your subwoofers, be sure to check the manufacturer website of your subwoofers before building.

For those who do not have any idea of what this is all about, this is basically the wiring configuration done in your subwoofer installation, especially if you do not buy a powered subwoofer, but instead fixing everything yourself. It involves a component sub in a box hooked to an amplifier.

The subwoofer wiring is generally dependant on the "load" capability of the amplifier and the impedance of your subwoofers in any case. A typical 2-channel amplifier gives you outputs for two speakers, and 2 outputs does not necessarily mean only limited to 2 subwoofers. With you own set of subwoofer wiring, you can have up to 4 subwoofers at a time. It has to be noted that usually the lower the impedance or the "load" the amplifier sees, the more power it will produce, and thus you will get louder and better music plays as well.
